The SCTPO leads and supports transportation projects and planning studies that improve safety, mobility, and quality of life for Brevard County residents and visitors. From roadway and transit planning to bicycle, pedestrian, and safety initiatives, these efforts help guide investments that shape how our community moves—today and in the future.
Below is a snapshot of current SCTPO-led projects and studies that are underway.

Brevard Regional Transportation Management Center (BRTMC)
Project End Date: Construction is expected to be completed in 2027.
Project Overview:
The Brevard Regional Transportation Management Center (BRTMC) is a 22,402-square-foot, purpose-built, hardened facility located at 2905 Pineda Causeway. Designed for 24/7 operations, the center will serve as the central hub for real-time traffic management, incident response, and interagency coordination across Brevard County.
More than 20 years in the making, the concept for a regional transportation management center began through long-range planning efforts focused on improving how agencies coordinate and respond to transportation challenges. The project was formally included in the SCTPO's Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Master Plan in 2015 and advanced through strong collaboration with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and Brevard County. Once operational, the BRTMC will significantly enhance how the region manages its transportation network. The facility will centralize:
Real-time roadway monitoring using cameras, sensors, and advanced ITS technology
Incident detection and coordinated response to reduce delays and improve safety
Integrated traffic signal system management to improve traffic flow and reliability
Interagency communication during daily operations, major events, emergencies, and evacuations
Beyond daily traffic management, the center represents a long-term investment in Brevard County’s future. It will support continued population growth, tourism, and the region’s expanding space industry while improving safety and mobility for residents and visitors alike. The BRTMC stands as a testament to regional partnership, persistence, and forward-thinking planning — a facility built not only for today’s needs, but for the next generation of transportation operations
Project Funding: The BRTMC is funded through a combination of state, federal, and local transportation funds:
Construction: $16.2 million
$8.1 million – FDOT
$8.1 million – Brevard County
Design: $900,000 – SCTPO
BRTMC Groundbreaking Ceremony | February 13, 2026
On February 13, 2026, local and state leaders officially broke ground on the BRTMC. Led by the SCTPO, in partnership with FDOT D5 and Brevard County Government, the event marked a major milestone in advancing transportation coordination across Brevard County. During the groundbreaking ceremony, leaders reflected on the long-term vision that made the project possible. The moment also honored former SCTPO Executive Director Bob Kamm, whose forward-thinking leadership helped cast the vision for the facility years ago.
Special appreciation was also extended to Ivey's Construction for leading construction of the facility and helping move the project from vision to reality. Learn more about the event by reading the full press release or watch the highlight reel, below:
Vision Zero Speed Management & Lighting Study
Project Start/Notice to Proceed Date: September 11, 2025
Project End Date: September 30, 2026
Project Purpose: The Vision Zero Speed Management and Lighting Study will focus on speed management and lighting data collection and analysis to determine recommendations to improve multimodal safety along roadways identified on high crash roadways. The Study results could potentially position local agencies to obtain Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) implementation grant funding.
Study Limits: Roadways identified on the SCTPO’s Vision Zero High Injury Network (HIN) in Brevard County, FL.
