Every five years the SCTPO develops the region’s Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP), a core work product that is federally required to receive and program federal transportation funds. The Advance 2050 LRTP outlines the 25-year transportation vision of the Space Coast region or Brevard County, identifying which transportation needs can be funded with available transportation revenues from federal, state, and local sources to address mobility, efficiency, and reliability. Advance 2050 was adopted by the SCTPO Governing Board on September 11, 2025.
Catch up on everything we covered during “Investing in Tomorrow’s Transportation, Together!”, our recent Virtual Lunch & Learn focused on the Advance 2050 Cost Feasible Plan, a prioritized list of future transportation projects shaped by YOUR input.
The Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) identifies transportation projects that are anticipated to be needed over the next 25 years and how they may affect the transportation system by analyzing factors including county policy, demand from future population and employment growth, changes in transportation technology and community input about what transportation improvements are desired moving forward.
The LRTP identifies which needs can be funded with available transportation revenues from federal, state, and local sources, and will consider all modes of travel. With input from the public and the SCTPO member communities, the transportation needs are ranked and prioritized using technical criteria developed to be consistent with the National Planning Factors.
Check out this video recap of our goal of creating a roadmap for a more efficient, sustainable, and accessible transportation system, with your help.
