The Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) annually evaluates the state of Brevard’s transportation system. The results are summarized in the State of the System (SOS) report which considers usage and performance trends of various transportation modes — highways, transit, seaport, airport and space. Additionally, safety, mobility, and congestion levels are monitored as well as long term trends. Thus, the SOS provides technical guidance to the TPO on where and how state and federal dollars can be programmed to enhance Brevard’s transportation system.

Congestion Management System

Congestion Management System

One of the key responsibilities of the SCTPO is the annual monitoring/management of Brevard County’s transportation system. This is referred to the Congestion Management System (CMS). The Long Range Transportation Plan is where the CMS begins and the SOS is a key element of the CMS. As the SOS monitors countywide trends and tracks the performance of Brevard’s transportation system, the analysis is then used to feed directly into the Project Priorities selection and then once funded, into the Transportation Improvement Program.
