2025 Bike & Roll to School Day Toolkit

The Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization invites all schools in Brevard County to join us in celebrating Bike & Roll to School Day! While the national event will be celebrated on May 7, 2025, feel free to choose a date within May that best fits your school’s needs.

Whether you’re planning an organized ride from a nearby meet-up point or just high-fiving students (and parents) who skipped the car loop, there are plenty of ways to get involved. No idea is too small! But remember – you must register your school to be recognized in the national count of Bike & Roll to School Day Events. Whether addressing the need to make routes to school safer or encouraging children to be more active, these events can be powerful tools to inspire lasting change.

Get Involved – Five Steps to Host Bike & Roll to School Day

Step 1: Register Your School

You must register your school to be recognized in the national count of Bike & Roll to School Day events.Click here to register!

Step 2: Build Your Team
Reach out to parents, guardians, teachers, and staff to get help in organizing the event and encouraging students to participate.

Step 3: Plan Your School or Community’s Event/Activities

• No event is too big or small! Get planning tips from the national organizers of Bike & Roll to School Day.
  Some ideas include:

• Walk or roll as a group to school as part of a walking school bus or a bicycle train.
• Too far to walk or roll? You can still get these students involved! Organize a nearby drop-off location (like a local park or shopping center) and meet students there. You can even organize an on-campus walk to get all students involved and boost their creativity for the day!
• Short on time? Here’s how to plan an event in just seven days. You’ve got this!
• Community leaders can organize outside activities that encourage the prioritization of road safety near our schools. Here’s seven ideas for promoting road safety for youth as part of Bike & Roll to School Day.
• Incorporate the WalkSafe program the week of Walk & Roll to School Day. This FREE program takes a data-driven approach and integrates homeroom/classroom, physical education, and art into pedestrian safety lessons.
• Use our Kids’ Zone resource center to plan pedestrian safety lessons.
• Safe Routes to School has a free lessons and videos to educate students from kindergarten to eighth grade. Check out their curriculum.

Step 4: Promote Your Bike & Roll to School Day Activities

National organizers and the SCTPO have developed several resources to help you promote your Bike & Roll to School Day:

• Announce Bike & Roll to School Day via school communications like Blackboard, Peachjar, on your marquee, via flyers, and through the morning announcements. Encourage families to participate and remind them to always stay alert while driving, during the event and beyond!
• Download digital materials to promote the event (logos, signs, banners, customizable flyers, puzzles).
• Use our toolkit graphics below to promote Bike & Roll to School Day and include your own safety messaging on your communication channels, such as your website, social media, and newsletters.
  • Share the SCTPO’s social media messaging across your own Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and LinkedIn pages.
  • Remember to tag @SCTPO in any photos or videos so that we can share your hard work on our channels.

Step 5: Host Your Event!

Today’s the day! Celebrate your hard work and have fun.

• Keep track of how many students participated and see if you can get more next year.
• Celebrate the families that participated.
• Take photos and share them with the SCTPO on social media or by emailing them to abby.hemenway@sctpo.com.
