Are you passionate about making Brevard County more accessible for everyone? The Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization (SCTPO) is currently seeking civic-minded individuals to fill three primary membership positions and two alternate positions on its Transportation Disadvantaged Local Coordinating Board (TDLCB).

Why Your Voice Matters

The TDLCB plays a vital role in ensuring reliable transportation opportunities are available to all residents, regardless of age, ability, or income. The board focuses heavily on the needs of older adults, persons with disabilities, low-income individuals, and children at risk.

Member Responsibilities include:

Identify local service needs and to provide information, advice, and direction to the Community Transportation Coordinator (CTC) on the services to be provided to the transportation disadvantaged population.
Assists in establishing eligibility guidelines and trip priorities.
Evaluates the performance of the CTC.
Review and approve various documents, such as the Transportation Disadvantaged Service Plan.
Review strategies and seek innovative ways to improve cost effectiveness, efficiency, safety, working hours and types of service within the county.
Time commitment: Approximately 1.5 hours quarterly, serving 3-year term membership

About the TDLCB

The Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization (SCTPO) participates in the Transportation Disadvantaged Local Coordinating Board (TDLCB) and annually appoints the TDLCB Chair. The TDLCB works to ensure transportation opportunities are available for all residents, regardless of age, ability, or economic status. The board also provides direction and advice to Space Coast Area Transit in the provision of transportation services.

Under the leadership of the SCTPO and with assistance from Space Coast Area Transit, the TDLCB holds periodic meetings and documents a Transportation Disadvantaged Service Plan . The Local Coordinating Board (LCB) for Transportation Disadvantaged Services meets quarterly to oversee the Transportation Disadvantaged (TD) program at a local level, by providing input on various issues, plans and programs.

The primary focus is directed to the needs of the TD population, specifically older adults, persons with disabilities, persons of low income and children at risk. The TDLCB reviews price and service levels, safety concerns, eligibility, and other pertinent issues. Categorical appointments representing participating agencies and citizen advocates are made by in conjunction with Florida Statute 427.

Meeting Time and Location

The TDLCB meets quarterly (February, May, August, and November) on Mondays at 10:30 a.m. at the Brevard County Government Center (2725 Judge Fran Jamieson Way Viera, Florida 32940: Florida Room, Building C, Third Floor). All meetings are open to the public and include sections for public comment. Exact dates and times for future TDLCB meetings can be found on the SCTPO’s committees calendar. Agendas are posted before each meeting in the A genda Center section of the SCTPO’s website.

If any person needs special accommodation due to disability or language to participate in a Space Coast Area Transit meeting or event, he or she should contact the organization at 321-690-6890 no less than three business days prior to the event.

TDLCB Bylaws

The bylaws govern the TDLCB, which includes information on board structure and member requirements. The TDLCB also develops the formal Grievance Procedures.
