FDOT to Host a Construction Open House for the State Road (S.R.) A1A/Jimmy Buffett Memorial Highway Over Sebastian Inlet Bridge Replacement Project
From south of the Sebastian Inlet in Indian River County to north of the Sebastian Inlet in Brevard County
 
INDIAN RIVER AND BREVARD COUNTIES, Fla. – The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) invites the community to a Construction Open House both in-person and virtually for the S.R. A1A/Jimmy Buffett Memorial Highway Over Sebastian Inlet Bridge Replacement Project in Indian River and Brevard counties.
 
The Virtual Public Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 19, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Please use the following link to register: https://bit.ly/InletBridge. You may also call +1 (562) 247-8422 Access Code: 414-375-878. A brief presentation followed by questions and comments from the public will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and again from 5:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Questions and comments may be submitted via the online chat or with the raise hand feature for the project team to address directly.
 
The In-Person Open House is scheduled for Tuesday, May 19, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Environmental Learning Center, The Lagoon Room, 255 Live Oak Drive, Vero Beach, FL 32963, and will have an informal open house format. FDOT staff and consultant staff members will be available to discuss the project and answer questions. Project improvements consist of constructing a new fixed bridge east of the existing bridge with a vertical clearance of 51 feet, two 12-foot wide travel lanes, two 8-foot wide shoulders, and two 12-foot wide shared-use paths to enhance safety, long-term resiliency, and pedestrian connectivity; constructing two observation decks, one under the bridge from the south shore and one under the bridge from the north shore to enhance recreational enjoyment for the community; constructing crosswalks on S.R. A1A/Jimmy Buffett Memorial Highway at the State Park’s north and south entrances to enhance safety and pedestrian connectivity; reconfiguring the State Park’s north and south entrances, including the addition of exiting right-turn lanes to improve traffic operations; constructing a southbound acceleration lane on S.R. A1A/Jimmy Buffett Memorial Highway from the State Park’s south entrance to improve traffic operations; lengthening the southbound S.R. A1A/Jimmy Buffett Memorial Highway right-turn lane, north and south of the bridge into the State Park to improve traffic operations; constructing a 12-foot wide shared-use path on both sides of the bridge and roadway to enhance safety and pedestrian connectivity; and milling and resurfacing the State Park’s North and South Parking Lots to enhance long-term resiliency.
 
Construction will begin in June 2026 at an estimated cost of $101.9 million and is anticipated to be completed in Spring 2032.
