MPO Board

Made up of 19 elected officials, the TPO Board is the decision-making body for regional transportation planning issues in the Space Coast. Seats are determined by Interlocal Agreement and are generally based on population. Each jurisdiction chooses the member(s) and alternate(s) appointed to the TPO.

Technical Advisory Committee

The Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) has twenty-seven (27) members (primarily planners, engineers and technical staff) representing various local governments and transportation agencies within Brevard County.  It is the responsibility of the TAC to review and evaluate transportation-related issues and make recommendations to the TPO Board on these issues.  Members and alternates are appointed by the Council or Board of the jurisdiction they represent and are approved by the TPO Board.

The TAC conducts their meetings in conjunction with the Citizens Advisory Committee on the Monday prior to the TPO Board meetings. The public is encouraged to attend TAC/CAC meetings. The meeting calendar and agendas are available on this web site, or by contacting TPO staff.

Citizens Advisory Committee

The Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) is comprised of twenty-four (24) members that represent a broad cross section of citizens interested in the development of an efficient, safe, and cost-effective transportation system.  CAC members are appointed by individual members of the TPO Board, with approval of the entire TPO.

The CAC conducts their meetings in conjunction with the Technical Advisory Committee on the Monday prior to the TPO Board meetings. The public is encouraged to attend TAC/CAC meetings. The meeting calendar and agendas are available on this web site, or by contacting TPO staff.

Bicycle, Pedestrian & Trails Advisory Committee

The Bicycle, Pedestrian & Trails Advisory Committee (BPTAC) has members that have an interest in bicycle and pedestrian issues and represent citizen activist groups, government staff, business owners and others. The BPTAC provides recommendations to the TPO about bicycle, pedestrian and trails issues. The BPTAC also recommends Transportation Enhancement project priorities.

The BPTAC generally meets monthly, at locations throughout Brevard County. The public is strongly encouraged to attend BPTAC meetings. A tentative meeting calendar is posted on this web site and agendas can be requested from TPO staff.

Growth Management Subcommittee

The Growth Management Subcommittee (GMSC) meets on an as needed basis, but at least once per year, to have in-depth discussions about transportation planning issues. GMSC members are local government and transportation agency planners or engineers and are generally members or alternates of the Technical Advisory Committee. Some issues addressed by the GMSC include:

  • Recommend Project Priorities to the TAC/CAC and TPO annually
  • Provide input to and review of socio-economic data used for the Long Range Transportation Plan and regional traffic model
  • discuss coordination of concurrency and other development and growth-related issues

Traffic Operations Committee

The Traffic Operations Committee (TOC) meets on an as-needed basis to discuss traffic operations and management issues of interest to the TPO. The TOC members include local government and FDOT staff responsible for administering the operation of traffic control devices, such as traffic signs and signals. Issues discussed by the TOC include:

  • Establishing performance measures and recommending project priorities to be implemented with funds set-aside by the TPO for operational improvements.
  • Coordination and discussion of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)
  • Other operations-related issues

Executive Committee

The TPO Executive Committee includes the TPO Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary and two (2) additional TPO Board members, elected by the TPO. The Executive Committee meets to discuss issues in detail that are of interest to the TPO Board. The Executive Committee may also meet to resolve complaints issued against the TPO. All decisions made by the Executive Committee are forwarded to the full TPO Board for consideration, prior to any action.

Executive Committee meetings are generally held immediately after regular TPO Board Meetings, and are noted on TPO Board agendas. The public is encouraged to attend Executive Committee meetings. For more information about the Executive Committee, please contact TPO Staff.

Central Florida MPO Alliance

The Central Florida MPO Alliance meets quarterly to discuss strategies for working together to address regional transportation issues. The Alliance includes representatives from the Space Coast TPO, Lake-Sumter MPO, METROPLAN ORLANDO, Ocala-Marion TPO, the Polk TPO and the Volusia County MPO. The Alliance also qualifies as a "Regional Partnership" eligible to receive Transportation Regional Incentive Program (TRIP) funds. MPO Advisory Council

The Florida Metropolitan Planning Organization Advisory Council (MPOAC) is a non-profit organization created to facilitate discussion and assist the individual TPO's/MPO's throughout Florida in the cooperative transportation planning process. The MPOAC is made up of a Governing Board (26 members - 1 MPO Board member from each TPO) and the Staff Directors (26 members - 1 staff representative from each TPO).
