Q: What is the TPO?

A: The Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) is a regional, multi-jurisdictional agency tasked with transportation planning and programming for the expenditure of state and federal transportation funds. The TPO is mandated by federal and state law to provide a continuing, cooperative and comprehensive transportation planning process in order for federal and state transportation funds to be spent in the Space Coast area. The TPO annually establishes project priorities, which are considered by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) when programming state and federal transportation funds.

Q: Who is the TPO?

A: The Space Coast TPO consists of nineteen (19) elected officials from local governments in Brevard County. In addition, the TPO has several advisory committees, including the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC), the Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC), and the Bicycle, Pedestrian & Trails Advisory Committee (BPTAC). Q: Where is the TPO?

A: The TPO Board and TAC/CAC meet in Building C at the Brevard County Government Center. The TPO Staff office is located in Building B, Room 105 at the Government Center. more...

Q: What is the current traffic count on my street?

A: The TPO monitors many state and county maintained roadway segments throughout the Space Coast. A list of current and historic traffic counts is available on the downloads page. If your street is not listed, and you live within an incorporated city or town, please contact the planning or engineering department of that city or town. If you're not sure, and don't see your street on the list, contact TPO staff.

Q: What is the Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP)?

A: The Long Range Transportation Plan is the 20-year plan for transportation improvements in the Space Coast. The LRTP is a finanically feasible document, based on revenue forecasts provided by the Florida Department of Transportaion. The LRTP uses existing and future socioeconomic (primarily population and employment) data to forecast transportation needs. more...

Q: What is the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP)?

A: The Transportation Improvement Program is a five-year plan detailing the expenditure of state and federal transportation funds within the Space Coast. Projects must be included in the TIP in order to be implemented. The TIP also includes information about potential locally funded projects and the most-recent 3-Year Federal Obligations Report. more...

Q: How can I become involved in transportation planning?

A: All regular meetings of the Space Coast TPO and advisory committees are open to the public. You are invited to attend these meetings and provide your comments or suggestions. You are also invited to attend our annual Transportation Open House, usually held in June (specific dates and locations will be posted on this web site) to assist the TPO in identiying transportaiton project priorities for inclusion in the annual Transportation Improvement Program (TIP).
